Wesley outclass Kingswood to win L.E. Blaze trophy

Wesley College beat Kingswood College by 30 points (5 tries, 1 conversion, 1 penalty) to 15 points (2 tries, 1 conversion, 1 penalty) to win their 36th L.E. Blaze Trophy rugby encounter, which concluded at the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy yesterday.
At the short break, the winners led 17-3.
Wesley scored their tries through Abdullah Sideek (3), Thalha Anas, and Sanruk Gamage. Kaiser Lye converted one of the tries and put over a penalty. Meanwhile, for Kingswood, their tries were scored by D.C. Bandara and Ishan Inoon. Imanka Ishara converted one of the tries and put over a penalty for the lads from Randles Hills.


This was Wesley College’s first win of the season, while the Kingswoodians ended the season without a solitary win.

The L.E. Blaze trophy was donated by the late Roy de Silva, former President of the Kingswood Old Boys’ Association, former NOC President, and former Chairman of the Asian Olympic Committee. The Trophy is named after Lewis Edmund Blaze, who was the founder of Kingswood College in 1891. The L. E. Blaze Trophy was first introduced to the Kingswood vs. Wesley encounter in 1986.
