Sri Lanka will play host to the women’s emerging cricket teams of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh this week, as they take part in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup.
The tournament is set to commence today and will conclude with the final on October 27 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Teams participating in the tournament are allowed a 15-member squad, out of which at least 11 players have to born on or after September 1, 1996.
Speaking on the eve of the tournament, Sri Lanka Women’s Emerging Team Captain, Harshitha Madavi said, “This is the first occasion that a tournament such as this is being conducted and it is a great opportunity for the players. We have been building up to this tournament over the last few months and are well prepared”.
“Our squad includes 8 players who have represented the national team and their presence is a great boost for us,” she also said.
All 4 teams will be in action today, with hosts Sri Lanka taking on Pakistan at the R. Premadasa Stadium while India face Bangladesh at the Thurstan College Grounds in Colombo.
