The air was filled with excitement and creative energy as Colombo's art community came together on the 15th of September at Curado Art Space for the exclusive exhibition, ‘Artists of Sri Lanka: The Beginning.’ This remarkable event showcased the work of over thirty contemporary Sri Lankan artists, and it lived up to its promise of being a celebration of creativity, culture, and artistic diversity. Curado was brought to life by Shanila Allas, a professional framer who has been working with local and international artists for over twenty years. Her exposure to local art through her framing, motivated her to create a platform for art collectors and art lovers to come to one space and view a cross-section of talent.

Shanila Alles

Speaking to Daily Mirror, Shanila stated, “through the years I have seen the works of our Sri Lankan artists just get better and better with time. From mimicking western styles or styles of our grandmasters to original pieces derived from our rich culture and history. This is what Curado is, a celebration of local art and a space for people to enjoy and come in for art consultancy and even rent out the space for workshops and exhibitions. It is also beyond the art on the wall as it holds an image bank of photographs which can be printed and framed on demand.”

This unique exhibition is also a reminder of unity and love where different artist from different races, backgrounds, experiences, and ethnicities all come together in one space, and are celebrated!
