INTERNATIONAL MOTHER’S DAY 2021

AMRITH & ASHVINDH WILSON

Happy Mother’s Day, Amma! No words would ever suffice to tell you how thankful we are for you and for everything you do so selflessly for us, everyday. You have shattered all the glass ceilings to be where you are today, and we will always be right beside you, every step of the way. Everyday is your day, Amma.  We love you!

NATALIE RODRIGO & NATASHA RAJAPAKSA

To say a few words about our mother today, Deanna Jayasuriya, is truly an honor. She has showered us with her love, inspired us with her passion and zest for life, and guided us with her intuitive wisdom. We thank her today for showing us the value of hard-work, good judgment, courage and honesty in all that we do. She has celebrated our successes and also taught us how to accept our defeats. Today, we would like to thank her for making us the women we are today, for being our supporter, counselor, inspiration and rock!

MALINDA & MALINTHI SEGERA

Ammi raised us alone for fourteen years and never once complained. She listened to our rants and tolerated our temper tantrums. Though, we don't say and often show it, we respect her immensely, and love her with all our hearts, much more than she could ever imagine. She is the best thing that happened to us and we love her for who she was, is and will be. Happy Mother’s Day Ammi. Thank you for all that you do. We love you!

ANNIKA FERNANDO

The roles of parent and child are being challenged to different levels this year and I’m filled with gratitude as a mother and daughter. I’m in awe of all young ladies carrying unborn children, those about to deliver and new mothers going through these times. I celebrate mothers homeschooling children and balancing other roles; mothers of young children challenged with limitations on physical activity, and those of older children managing the mental health of teenagers and young adults; mothers of children sitting exams and guiding their children to start new phases in life. I admire the strength in older mothers holding it together and questioning time. There are mothers through these hard times whose basic daily fight is food, shelter, safety and now health for their children. I hope that as a community and on a bigger scale we can offer support for those who have less in everything. And then there’s the loss; those mourning loss of their mothers and those mothers mourning the loss of their children. So, I can only remind myself how blessed I am and how temporary that can be. This mother’s day and every day is a time to acknowledge, recognize and support all it comes with and I will work every day to be as good a mother as my mother has been to me. Happy Mother’s Day.

RANMALI & SONALI PATHIRANA

Our mother, Manil Pathirana is much loved by her family and friends and is still famous for her shop, Boutique Ranmal, which many remember with fond memories. She is actively involved with the Lions Club, is a Founding Member of the Sri Lanka Housewives Association, and volunteers every week with Lanka Alzheimer’s Foundation. Her kindness, unconditional love and her ability to make people laugh means she is always surrounded by friends and family. She is a beloved grandmother to Randev, Raaya and Raneka, and mother to Ranmali, Ranil and Sonali, and mum-in-law to Kumar, Frank and Debika. Happy Mother’s Day darling Ma

SONALI DHARMAWARDENE

Sonali and Shanthi

As your hair turned silver and your walk got slower, your spirit and joyous laughter never changed. Every family member, every friend, acquaintance and staff-member over the years recalls your care-free youthful charm. Ammi it’s ok that you can’t fuel us 24/7 anymore, and you can’t continue to keep our fires burning, and it’s ok not to do every chore and cook up a storm for every meal, and also remember it’s ok to put your legs up once in a while, and slow down and enjoy this new season of life. I often wonder, how can I make you do all of the above. You simply refuse to stop. You’ll have a card, a gift, and a word for every soul who walks into your life. You’ll smile from your heart and fill the room with laughter. You’ve been a mother to many people; from your siblings to your children. You’ve set the highest bar in moral standards for us all. Honesty, integrity, meekness and gentleness; so much generosity and kindness, that I often felt people tried to walk all over you. Today, as I see my evening horizon, I see your walk, and I know the god who chose you, chose you for me. Different, special and unique, with the looks you had and your beautiful heart you could have launched a thousand ships. Yet you stuck to one; faithful and committed. Every child sees their mother as best, and I see myself as supremely blessed to be your daughter. I know who you are and I know, and I know, and I know - there can never be another you. Happy Mother’s Day Ammi.

DARSHI KEERTHISENA

Everyone’s mom is special, and for me, mage Amma, is a super woman. Growing up in the village of Koswadiya, I saw her as a strong, brave and kind person with immense endurance to face all the ups and downs life had to offer. She truly is a modern-day superwoman. I see this more as I grow older. We need to celebrate moms every day! Happy Mother’s Day Amma.
