Soul Sounds Celebrates 21 Years of ‘Moods of Christmas’

The festive season is upon us, and what better way to usher in the Christmas spirit than with the soulful melodies of Sri Lanka’s premier female ensemble, Soul Sounds. This year’s edition of Moods of Christmas marks a momentous milestone as the choir celebrates 21 consecutive years of enchanting audiences at the Cinnamon Grand, Colombo.

Directed by the accomplished Soundarie David Rodrigo, Soul Sounds has earned a reputation for its heartfelt performances that seamlessly blend tradition with innovation. What sets this year’s show apart is its impressive legacy: no other choir in Sri Lanka has staged a Christmas performance at the same venue for over two decades. This consistency is a testament to the enduring appeal of Moods of Christmas, an event that has become a cherished holiday tradition for many.

The 2024 edition promises a repertoire of unique vocal and instrumental arrangements, staying true to Soul Sounds’ hallmark creativity and excellence. Fresh from their triumph at the World Choir Games held in Auckland, New Zealand, in July this year, where they clinched two Gold Medals, the choir is eager to present something new and vibrant to its loyal audience.

Adding a youthful vibrancy to the evening will be the talented Soul Sounds Academy Children’s Choir, who themselves are basking in the glory of their recent victory at the Bali International Choir Competition, where they secured two Gold Medals. Conducted by the gifted young baritone Shenuk Wijesinghe, the children’s choir will deliver a delightful performance that is sure to captivate hearts and inspire holiday cheer.

This year’s Moods of Christmas is directed by Soundarie David Rodrigo, whose visionary leadership continues to elevate the event’s artistic quality. The concert is designed to bring the warmth and joy of the holiday season to all, featuring a repertoire that spans traditional carols and contemporary classics.
