AG gives greenlight for May 31 SLC election date

The Attorney General’s Department has given the greenlight to hold Sri Lanka Cricket elections on May 31, SLC confirmed today.

Accordingly an Emergency Executive Meeting has been call for tonight to finalize the formalities and immediately send the notice of AGM to the membership.

After AG earlier advised the board to respect the country’s sports regulations and appoint the Election Committee by a Special General Meeting, SLC decided to hold the AGM on May 31. This was after they decided to have the SGM on May 19 to appoint the Election Committee. However the matter was then referred to the AG’s department for their opinion and they have now given the greenlight to go ahead with the election.

According to these rules, all National Sports Associations (NSAs) should “hold a Special General Meeting to elect the members for the Elections Committee”. However, SLC formed a five-member committee through its Executive Committee without a mandate from the general membership to do so.
