The Jathika Jana Balawegaya (SJB) today organized a protest against the proposed 20th Amendment to the Constitution in front of the statue of late Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera. SJB MPs including its leader Sajith Premadasa and a group of supporters participated in the event.
A group of school children were seen taking a boat from Battaramulla to reach their schools in Wellawatta. The boat service which was launched by the Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation (SLLDC) in collaboration with the SL Navy is popular among the school children. The fee for the boat ride from Battaramulla to Wellawatta is Rs.100 per person.
Vivaha Wedding Exhibition was launched at the BMICH yesterday under the patronage of President of Seva Vanitha Unit of Sri Lanka Army Sujeewa Nelson. Bridal dresses, hotels, hair dressing are showcased at the exhibition. The show will be held until September 6, 2020.
The Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Air Force, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard are currently working together to control the fire that erupted after an explosion of a boiler in the main engine room of MT New Diamond, an oil tanker sailing 38 nautical miles off Sangamankanda Point east of Sri Lankan seas, around 8.00 a.m yesterday.

Sri Lanka Railways Department in collaboration with the Tantri private limited refurbished a 31-year-old mail coach and added it to the Badulla night mail train.
