Candidates can only spend Rs. 109 per voter in Presidential election

Colombo, August 19 (Daily Mirror) - The Election Commission has set Rs. 109.00 as the maximum amount a Presidential candidate can spend per voter during campaigns.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake said the Gazette notification in this regard will be issued tonight.

ALL THE CANDIDATES NEED TO DO IS ORGANISE FOR BUSES TO TAKE PEOPLE TO THE POLLING BOOTH AND TRANSPORT COULD BE MONITORED, VOTERS WILL EITHER GO ON THEIR WON OR TAKE THE TRANSPORT TO VOTE, ESPECIALLY IN THE VILLAGES AND REMOTE AREA.

Rs 109 per voter with 14 million voters is Rs 1.5 billion. These guys are spending this kind of money in order to recover it later. This system every 5 years , with 2 major elections , forces politicians to make money when in power. This system requires drastic change. Without any change there is no end to any corruption.

With 17 Million voters Rs.109/- will be Rs.18.5 Billion. Hope EC will publish how much each spent. But how will they recover the spending. Licences, Projects and other things to add to the corruption. Will EC inform us who wanted Rs.1000/- per voter to spend Rs.185 Billion.
