EC estimates 65% voter turnout in General election



Colombo, November 14 (Daily Mirror) - Election Commission Chairman R.M.A.L. Ratnayake has estimated an overall voter turnout of 65% for the Parliamentary election. 

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, he stated that the voter turnout as of 2 p.m. was 55%.

"We predict the final voter turnout to be 65%," he added.

This marks a drastic drop from the 79% turnout in the last Presidential election. 

However, the Election Commission has yet to announce the official voter turnout.

The breakdown of voter turnout in several key districts as of 4 p.m. is as follows: 

- Colombo: 65%
- Nuwara-Eliya: 68%
- Matara: 64%
- Batticaloa: 61%
- Puttalam: 56%
- Anuradhapura: 65%
- Kurunegala: 64%
- Ratnapura: 65%
