Colombo, March 12 (Daily Mirror) - Leader of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), Mahinda Rajapaksa, said that a general election should be held first and then the presidential election to maintain a fair process in the country.
Addressing the media, Rajapaksa said that Basil Rajapaksa had conveyed this proposal to President Ranil Wickremesinghe on behalf of the SLPP when Basil met the President recently.
Mahinda Rajapaksa also maintained that if this proposal is not followed, whichever party wins the presidential election will have a massive victory in the parliamentary election, which is not good for the country.
He also said that there should be a fair situation in the country after the elections.

You are speaking from experience and you already know the results of any election that would be held. Nonetheless, in any election, the people of this nation will treat you fairly.

Yes, with your current IGP you can easily rig the general election and secure many seats before a President is elected. If the Presidential Election happens first, the new Pres can appoint a neutral IGP and have a free and fair election which is a problem for SLPP.

Plan to rig the election while you can to prevent getting wiped out of parliament? You still won't win but you can secure seats for the family and their henchmen at the very least.

What a insincere clown! In all previous times that he was at the helm and held elections it was good for them that the party won the presidential election to have a massive victory in the parliamentary election that followed. Please explain the difference as to how it was good for the country then, and why he and his family did not have the concerns expressed now then. Also why he did not have general elections before the parliamentary elections? While at it could he also explain his rational for being a key player in the 52 day constitutional coup.

Running scared of NPP. Imagine the scenario. NPP wins Presidential election immediate travel ban for Rajapakse family. But if NPP wins Parliament election RW still in charge of Police and saves Rajapakse family from being issued a travel ban. Pre planning

What have NPP done legally against that family? Nothing. Not even convicted them. Why? Not capable. In the FCID, failed to do anything. Under Chandrika, from 2004-2005, as ministers nothing done. That's why NPP/JVP tell they never rule as nothing to be told as done. Humorous!

So, it is not fair to have local government elections. What a democracy of that crippling Royal family! Local government elections must be held first as initial actions are over.

This has to be a sick joke, surely? The very man who viciously silenced his critics and opposition now talking about "fairness"? I thought we had seen the end of that clown's ridiculous face? But clearly not. Sri Lanka would be the only country in the world that permits criminals an opinion on general elections, leave alone politics. What is wrong with this country?????
