So what happened to your 200000 promise. 150000 was requested by previous government know.
Also what happened to your pen that you said will be used within 24hrs to solve some problems. Did someone steal it?

I think you will have millions of questions like yours for the Rajapaksies government. Wake up to the realities and appreciate the positive results, though not a 100% achievement.

It is called compromise and being sensible. Do you want to see us bankrupted again.

This announcement will certainly be appreciated by a good number of the present category of tax payers. What RW failed AKD has done. This could also be a roll start for many more significant changes. Critics will now search for other opportunities.

It's RW, who was given green light for 150,000, and 700,000 slots instead of 500,000.
AKD, promised 200,000 but still pending...

I think you need a little dose of reality tbh. This tax cap increment was already in cards when RW was in power. Read through the previous discussions tabled with IMF. Everything was plugged in to the 25' budget by the then government. But in-between, the government changed and AKD is now just following the same and masquerading it as if it's something he was able to negotiate. The reality is that whoever is in power, this will be the maximum relief people will get in terms of a tax cap and neither government could deliver it earlier than this. But at least RW had cojones to tell it out loud without sugarcoating it.

1. The Rs. 150,000 threshold was requested by the previous govt.
2. Withholding tax is increased from 5% to 10%.
Same Difference.

What happened to all the bold discussions against the IMF agreement during 2022–2024? AKD is simply following in RW's footsteps!

Some remain ensnared in the remnants of the Ranil-Rajapaksa era. Have you all forgotten that, even in the face of declared economic bankruptcy, not a single minister or member of parliament stepped forward to relinquish the extravagant privileges afforded to them by the bankrupt state? Most egregious, however, is the unparalleled scale of corruption and abuse perpetrated by senior ministers, for which no punitive measures were ever undertaken.

Hey, I thought this is our country and we set rules not IMF. This is what I was expecting with a system change. Now did anybody say IMF agrees ? Ok understood many more to come .
