Israel-Palestine conflict – MR says war is not the solution

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa visited the Palestine Embassy in Colombo today (16) to stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine amidst the escalating conflict between Israel and Palestine.

During discussions with the Palestinian Ambassador, Rajapaksa said there was no room for terrorism anywhere in the world and war was not the solution.

Rajapaksa also stressed the importance of resolving these issues through peaceful discussions.

Drawing from Sri Lanka's own experiences with war, he emphasized the urgency of peace, which holds the promise of prosperity for civilians in both countries.

“I have consistently supported the Palestinian cause as the Founder President of the Sri Lanka Society for Solidarity with Palestine," he said.

"War is never a solution," the former President added.

War may be a solution. But with the terrorist. Not with the innocent people. Don't kill innocent people to come to power or win the war. Terrorist and the government act to be with the people to safe guard themselves. How long we can have discussions with the government to come for a solution. Even if we come for a solution the majority won't implement it. Release their own terrorist from prison. So war may be a solution but not harming the innocent civilians.

Agreed Mr. Mahinda. Even you were forced to begin the final war due to LTTE's recalcitrant attitude. But afterwards instead of being magnanimous in providing a just solution to Tamils you audaciously displayed victor's mentality to the victims and switched to unprecedented corruption mode.
