Renowned Sri Lankan movie actor Jackson Anthony passed away this morning at the age of 65 while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Colombo National Hospital after being involved in an accident in Anuradhapura, hospital sources said.

He was admitted to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital after his vehicle crashed against a wild elephant in Thalawa. There were two others with him.

He was admitted to the Anuradhapura Hospital on July 2, 2022.

Later, he was transferred to the National Hospital in Colombo after five days from the accident and received treatment at the ICU.

All three people were seriously injured in the accident that took place in Thalawa.

According to family sources, the final rites will be held on Thursday (12th) at 3:00 PM at Sts. Peter & Paul's Church in Ragama.

Passed away a long time ago. Family should have donated his organs. Instead so many people died due to a lack of beds including a little girl recently.

R.I.P. dear Jackson! What a wonderful actor he was! Sadly, how many utube channels in Sinhala ridiculed his "death" long before he died. Some of our people's mentality is so pathetic!! Can nobody stop or have some control over such channels?? Some of them are absolutely disgusting to say the least.

May he soul Rest in Peace. As I understand he was pronounced dead many months ago due no functioning of brain, brain dead. Physical body was kept alive by machines in ICU. Now that the ICU bed is released, many more will benefit.

His story is a lesson for influenced People not keep their loved ones in ICU beds if they can't recover. See the damaged to this talented artist due to blocking ICU bed for months, otherwise use to save many lives. anyway he does not know all these foolish work by his close people. RIP Jackson

A poor country like Sri Lanka can not afford such high medical bill, it is burden on poor tax payers money. They can keep as long as they want in life support, if it is paid by them.

Irrespective what has happened in the past some maybe right whilst others may be wrong. My question is whether on the demise of Jackson Anthony is it better to be critical or to be quiet. There is a time to cry and a time to laugh. There is a time to be sad and Time to dance.There is a time to throw stones and to gather them. So let us be human beings in our thinking as we will all have to face death and we do not know under what circumstances. Hey Sambo, your argument that other patients were denied ICU beds is baseless. ICU beds are first come first served. The family believed that there was some chance for him to recover. That is why they kept him on life support. Any family would want the same thing. Yours is typical JVP mentality.

People who criticize his long stay in the ICU have no idea how such decisions are made. No one has the right to discontinue life support unless certain medical criteria are met to confirm brain death. Coma and brain death are different states. There are plenty of patients lingering in ICUs for that reason. But doctors have a right to decide if it is worthwhile to put a patient on life support in the first place. But once they do, they can’t take them out unless brain dead.

His contribution to the Sri Lankan society is more meaningful if his close family allowed him to passed away without any pain and suffering during the last 500 days, while giving life long opportunities for many most critical patients who could be served if very limited breathing equipment available for them to use . Also if his close relatives allowed him to passed away peacefully he could gain more merits by donating organs to serve more vulnerable younger lives .
