MPs seek one million rupee insurance coverage to be extended to include family members
Colombo, May 16 (Daily Mirror) - Following the approval of concessionary vehicle permits, the MPs across the political divide have asked for the extension of their one -million rupee insurance coverage to include their family members, a top source said yesterday.
At the House Committee meeting held last Friday, the MPs have asked for this benefit while insisting for concessionary vehicle permits for the second time.
Currently, the premium for the MPs’ insurance is paid by them and the Parliamentary Affairs Ministry together. They have sought to include their family members in the coverage. They have reportedly agreed to pay an increased premium.
However, the final decision has not yet been taken in this regard.
Also, the source said the MPs insisted on the vehicle permits once again despite approval given at the previous meeting. Daily Mirror reportedly learns that Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane has written to President Ranil Wickremesinghe to consider granting such permits as requested by the MPs in writing.
The government is to consider such concessions once the ban on vehicle imports are lifted.

So agree. Where are all those commentators supporting this government in stabilising the country? Most politicians use loans and increased taxes even a grade 10 student can do to pay for expenditures. By withholding loans and interest payments, the reserves are accumulating for the politician’s use. Once reserves are evaporated, new loans and the begging bowls are placed for international assistance! This is the scenario going on for many years and voters are so brainwashed with this nonsense. Hope the security forces see this and support the citizens in not supporting these corrupt politicians anymore. Hope the relatives of these security forces make sense to them of the situation.

SLPP (Potuwa) MPs. are on this move as the know pretty well they won't be elected anymore at any cost. Moreover, they have their fear of their lives as well as their family members because after the elections no one knows what will happen to them. Hence, they make prior arrangements on Insurance, Duty free vehicle permits etc.,

The evil of democracy? When MR was in power, even his coconut plucker was given a post in Govt. service and the helpless public paid the salary and benefits. You can't blame MR because we the dumb voters gave him a blanket coverage for all the threats he presented from Tigers and we were carried away with those words. Clearly shows most politicians not bothered with countries and people’s daily challenges. But ample time and ideas for their personal enrichment interest. RW preaching daily on austerity measures and they are finding ways to keep on taking loans and maximising personal benefits! Can’t they see the amount of poverty and infrastructures depletion in their constituencies? Voted in to improve all these issues but giving excuses not enough funds due to economic situation. Are these MP's working for the country or for themselves.And this during election time when they have to go before the people for their vote.What do you think they will do if they are elected for another term? The whole system needs a complete overhaul. Or maybe such distractions are paving the way(making it easier) for the country to fall into foreign hands. Whatever the answer it is the people at the receiving end They have to make the sacrifices - rising cost of living, taxes, loss of jobs etc
