NPP projected to get 2/3 majority in Parliament

The National People’s Power (NPP), led by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, is projected to get a two-thirds majority in Parliament based on the number of seats won by the party.

This marks the first time a single party has achieved this under the Proportional Representation system.

Unbelievable. Except Batticaloa NPP has won all districts. Ethnic, religious and other tribal boundaries have been shattered. It took 76 years to happen. Shows poorly on islanders who were politically divided by petty issues. Better late than never. This unity itself is a win for all.

The first amendment the NPP will bring in will be to abolish the proportional representation system and bring back the 'first past the post' system. But then, on the long run, it will be detrimental to their chances of re-election after five or six or whatever number of years.
