Mannar, May 25 (Daily Mirror)- The National People's Power (NPP) today refuted claims that a JVP member has joined the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) during a meeting in Polonnaruwa.
NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the particular person was not a JVP member but an SLFP member.
Speaking at a meeting in Mannar, Dissanayake said the particular person Hitihamilage Saman Kumara is an SLFP candidate who had submitted nominations for the Local Government elections to contest for the Bendiwewa Division of the Polonnaruwa Municipal Council.
"You must have seen the SJB today cheerfully claiming at an SJB rally in Polonnaruwa that a JVP member had joined the SJB. This will create big news on television today. All SJB leaders embraced him happily. I know who he is. He is Hitihamilage Saman Kumara, who submitted his nominations for the Local Government elections to contest for the Bendiwewa Division of the Polonnaruwa Municipal Council under the SLFP ticket. The SLFP member has become a JVP member for the SJB. They are anyhow trying to hoodwink the people," he said.

SJB is better off without any current or former JVPer.

Will The Voters Ever Realise The Evil Of Most Politicians Sunday, 26 May 2024 11:24 AM
Any frog / moron jumping around when in parliament should not be voted back by the citizens in the next elections. This will send a clear message to these spineless so called “politicians” the people don’t trust them in solving their issues and they are only interested in self interests. They are voted in and enjoy a reasonable salary with perks to serve the people and country and NOT to be corrupted in anyway. But as seen over the years, the life’s of the average citizen is miserable and with endless suffering. However these idiots are having a ball of a time enjoying the perks and finding other ways to get richer using their “political pass”!

Weak Ranil Will Have Big Support If He Removes Corruption Sunday, 26 May 2024 05:04 AM
Only if Ranil is able to get rid of those corrupt “Politicians” under him he will have a winning chance. All are feed up seeing the daily corruption taking place and Ranil’s solution is to increase taxes on the innocent hard working private sector citizens.

Allowing Corruption In Politics Is Ranil’s Issue Sunday, 26 May 2024 05:11 AM
The tugs and morons Ranil is hanging out with lately gives him a slim chance of winning the people’s support. Until he goes on an overdrive to remove and be very serious similarly in Singapore on corruption matters, his support base will be low.

Of all the defeats Ranil has got himself bruised since 1977, 2024 will record the worst defeat by a sitting President. What else would you expect? Not a single practical engagement to regenerate industries, stem the ever rising unemployment and high CoL even middle class are suffocated. Just read away pages of sheets, wiggle his bum and walk away in answer to the barrage of questions with a lame joke!

Here we go, Kulesh. Let me put it this way: Ranil's basket is full of bad apples, and our economy tells that story loud and clear. He's been lugging around those rotten fruits for ages. The other side/s? Not so much spoiled stuff. So, Kulesh, your choice: you want to munch on the spoiled apples or enjoy the fresh ones?

I am not a RW worshiper. Have never voted for him. This time of he comes forward I will. He has demonstrated that he is capable of making tough political decisions for the long-term benefit of the country. Such a pitty that the country and the economy was not put on this path 40 years ago. I will be voting for the one who is demonstrating sound economic policy and judgment. There is certainty the the correct but difficult path will continue to be traversed by him. I hang my hat on action and not convenient promises.

WHEN POLITICIANS PUT THEMSELVES BEFORE THE PEOPLE, KARMA CATCHES UP WITH THEM AT SOME POINT OF TIME Sunday, 26 May 2024 02:46 PM
KULESH, SORRY YOU APPEAR TO BE HALUCINATING. AS I HAVE REPEATEDLY STATED AND SO HAVE NUMEROUS OTHER VOTERS IN AND OUTSIDE THIS PAPER. RANIL'S DOWNFALL WILL BE HIS FAILURE TO BRING THE CORRUPTWHO BROUGHT THE COUNTRY DOWN, THEIR STOOGES, INCLUDING HANDLE HEAD ON ALL CORRUPTION THAT HAS COME TO LIGHT DECADES AGO AND OR AFTER HIS PLACEMENT BY GOTA. PEOPLE ARE NOT WAITING TO HEAR WHAT HE ADDS BEFORE AND OR AFTER THE ELECTIONS, ALL WE NEED IS TO FOLLOW CLOSELY HIS OPERATIONS SINCE TAKING OVER. WE HAVE SEEN A "CART BEFORE THE HORSE" OPERATION TP PROP U HIMSELF AS A GOD SENT GIFT TO THE PEOPLE, IN STEAD OF BRINGING UP ELECTION SPINS. INSHORT, HE IS ASKING THE PEOPLE "TRUST ME I WILL TACKLE THE CORRUPTION ETCONCE i AM ELECTED" BUT UNFORTUNATELY, WE THE PEOPLE HAVE HEARD THESE FALSE PROMISES TIME

For Malimawa to be part of a future government, they should join hands with SJB as a coalition partner and contest the election. Independently, JVP does not have enough talent to run a government, especially in foreign policy, Justice and finance.

NPP, please remember the agreement reached with IMF needs to be maintained. If you attempt to amended it, then the country will end up paying all the borrowed money, which is detrimental to the economy.

PUNCHI's HUSBAND Anurakumara Dissanayaka was wrong in his comment, if SJB has embraced a JVP member, SJB too will face unprecedented defeat in the coming election the way how Ranil lost the UNP in 2019,with ZERO seat in the last Presidential election. SJB at least having considerable seats in Parliament than Dead UNP and dying JVP.

SJB is a party which is full of decent. It has no one voice ,some has views which opposes to the views express by its leader. Its chairmen is already out of the party. Some leaders like Rajitha, Thalkatha Athukorala, Kavirathna say we must join Ranil and SJB policies are similar to the policies of UNP. Do you find anything like this in NPP. They hold one view as a party they talk on one line and they have no different view when it comes to policies of the party

Where is 1999 JVP presidential candidate Nandana Gunathilake now? JVP may project their scores in 1982, 1999 and 2019 to figure out an estimation. Are Rajapakshas miserable failures, a vote-catching qualification for the JVP as they desirably promote? JVP politics and their grassroots culture are more closer to Rajapaksha politics than CBK's or Ranil's. That is why JVP communist, socialist former strongman Wimal went with Mahinda. Clearly that extreme grassroots of Pohottuwa will vote for JVP this time adding something to that estimation.

Yes, very true. I believe, NPP is the only option as the rest are corrupt, Anura may bring the needed change, if the needed change doesn't happen even with NPP, waste of another 5 years, what the heck, it's anyway going to happen if NPP doesn't come to power.

Problems in the country not important to AKD or SP Sunday, 26 May 2024 09:25 AM
This is the biggest issue haunting this nation, and both parties are claiming victory over the other. All other problems, Ranil is there to look into, because he took over the workload.

I agree with Kullesh since SJB and NPP will not be able to solve any issue at least for the next five years and things ar5e not going to be rosy. It better to continue with the known devil rather than the unknown angel.

I tend to agree. Talk is cheap while walk is rare. The road we are walking on now is the long and narrow. It is most likely to take the country to the cherished destination. There is no room for economic experimentation, we had it and we know where we ended up.

Surely a lunatic idea to continue supporting UNP, SLFP, and SLPP. They will stoop to abusing children next time, and yet you will prefer them as your devil.

Nothing to jump about, not newsworthy at all. Mr. Hitihamilage is just exercising his right to join any party of his choice, or even start his own. Just like Diana did a few years back with the original SJB. We should be proud of our freedoms—speech, religion, and political engagement. Nice to see we're on the right track!

Our common goal should be the Best future of this country. But most countries are same, this isn't my country but usually people, including politicians care about the prosperity of their own parties. Doesn't matter if it's truly based on the wishes for the Best of this country, but same like wesak festival nowadays, often true goal and the meaning of certain (future) event is forgotten due to their own greed and concern only for themselves. If not, this world would've been the paradise. I've lived in many countries but I see in common, usually it's rare to find politicians who truly work for the country even with the sacrifice of their own wealth and time.

How many of us would vote for honest politicians? There have been few who have contested and not received sufficient votes. We always cry loud we want to create a corruption free country. But very few actually vote towards achieving that. First of all, people need to change. Stop bribing policemen, school principals, customs officials, etc.... Change will come

Sam Silva Sunday, 26 May 2024 05:27 PM
@roger We can't stop corruptions, all the crooks and ask them to change. It's has gone to the roots of our entire population. Even if there are some honest people, to get anything done in our country has to be bribed. It's norm in our country and we breath the same air every day. No alternative.

SK, YOU SAY WHAT'S GOOD FOR THE COUNTRY AND LEAV E OUT THE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE LVING BELOW THE POVERTY LINE!! NO POINT IN THE COUNTRY PROGRESSING AND THE CITIZENS STILL IN SQUARE ONE!!! GVERNMENTS WORK FOR THE COUNTRY AND ITS PEOPLE, NEVER FORGET THIS FACT AS ITS THE PEOPLE WHO VOTE IN THE GOVERNMENT AND OBVIOUSLY PAST TWO DECADES THE MAJORITY OF VOTES MADE THEIR OWN BEDS AND LAY ON THEM. I HOPE THEY LEARTN A BITTER LESSON AND VOTE ACCORDINGLY TO THEIR OWN SITUATION AND NEVER FORGET THE SUFFERINGS THEY HAVE GONE THROUGH DURING THE PAST DECADES. WE NEED TO MAKE SURE THERE ARE MORE SCHOOLS IN THE VILLAGES AND REMOTE AREAS, SO WE CAN EDUCATE THE POOR AND LESS FORTUNATE SO THEY CAN MOVE FORWARD IN LIFE NOT STAGNATE OR MOVE BACKWARDS.

Tulseth Sunday, 26 May 2024 09:52 PM
Yes, we definitely need to ensure that there are more schools in villages and remote areas. That way more people will learn not to use upper case when writing paragraphs. Such basics need to be taught to more people.
