Police arrest husband and wife for assault of woman in viral video

A 36-year-old couple, husband and wife, have been arrested by the Kandana Police after a video showing a woman being assaulted in a private institution has gone viral on social media.

Police said the incident took place in a private institution at Aniyakanda Road, Nagoda in Kandana on October 3.

The police launched investigations on the basis of information received on the police emergency number 118.

Accordingly, these suspects were arrested at Lipton Road, Nagoda by the Kandana Police last night.

Investigations revealed that the arrested suspect is a close relative of the woman who was assaulted.

The suspected husband and wife have been running a business of trading goods online in the Aniyakanda area, and the investigation has revealed that the woman who was assaulted has been staying at this relative's house for about 3 years and working in the relevant company.

The woman who was assaulted had not complained to the police about the assault due to the fact that the suspect couple were relatives.

However, according to the police she decided to lodge a complaint with the police after the video footage of the incident was circulated on social media and television.(DSB)

Wonder if the couple’s business was registered with a tin number? Looks like quite a good turnover! Many online trading takes place with not a cent being payed as tax, yet the IR goes chasing daily paid executives to pay taxes.

People all over the world watched the video, the girl getting assaulted several times. I watched from NZ and forwarded it to many. Shame ! A matured person doing such a thing with his wife. At least the wife should have stopped him from that.
