Polluted air from India causes haze in some areas in SL: Met. Dept.

Colombo, Jan 16 (Daily Mirror) -  Polluted air which comes from India with the wind flow has caused haze in some areas in Sri Lanka, the Department of Meteorology said yesterday.

“Polluted air which comes from India along with the wind flow has caused haze in areas such as Bandarawella and Badulla, A duty forecaster from the Department told Daily Mirror.

“The wind flow from New Delhi comes in a circular motion where it travels from Delhi towards Bay of Bengal. This wind flow which curves from Bay of Bengal enters Sri Lanka from the East. This is how it affects Sri Lanka,” he said.

“We also expect some moisture to come along with the wind shortly which would result in some rains. This will reduce the haze. However it is likely that there will be a further airflow from India by the end of this month. Sri Lanka is not affected much at the moment,” he added.

The department also assured that a temperature drop in Nuwara Eliya will pass during the coming days. Temperate in the Central Province district was down to 6c degrees as of last evening.
