Colombo, August 29 (Daily Mirror)- President Ranil Wickremesinghe said he will appoint a committee to look into matters regarding the enactment of new laws against corruption.
Speaking at the ceremony to launch his election manifesto, he said the committee will comprise members appointed by the Speaker, professional association, the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) and the Chamber of Commerce.
The President said some of the laws against corruption have already been enacted while some more are still to be enacted.
"Everyone is talking about taking action against corruption and to catch thieves. How are they going to do it? We are bringing legislations to net thieves. It is easy to talk," he said.

Why a new committee. Your cabinet is full of those with corrupt deals. Ask them to stand down within the next 24 hours and prove your actions are genuine.

So Desperate To Stay In Power Thursday, 29 August 2024 02:04 PM
By looking at Ranil’s statement on corruption, he’s soooo desperate to stay in power. All the while he didn’t bother on the hot topic of prosecuting those involved in corruption and also those sensational murder cases. Only now after seeing how determined NPP will be on prosecuting those corrupt officials, he’s suddenly into it too. But my gut feel is if he’s voted back, will soon forget or stay adamant on not prosecuting and not disturb the corrupt bee hive as he has more betters things such as globe trotting to do.

Fine, can you ask him to stop corruption within himself, just giving appointment to discarded lot for so called "presidential advisors" is a form of corruption. People must think and vote this time.

People still don't have answers, even with all the committees you formed after taking office. You had all the time in the world to catch the rogues, but you chose to sleep with them instead. And now, another committee? If you think this will sway voters, you're daydreaming, my dear sir.

You should have done this soon after taking office. So many committees were formed but nothing on prosecuting the corrupt politicians in the current and previous regimes. You were so adamant to enjoy your Presidential privileges and globe trotting soon after the appointment of President. Didn’t dare to “poke the corruption bee hive” because you may have been bumped off or told not to as part of your selection to join that party instrumental in the 2022 crisis. If a few of these corrupt politicians can be prosecuted before the elections, may have a better chance in the elections. People are so frustrated you have not lifted a finger in getting these corrupt politicians but only know to take new loans, begging from international donors and Taxing heavily the average person who is struggling daily to make end meets. You are So unfair!

How are they going to do it. First a concerted effort genuinely and not dilly dallying with your committees. Your promises to Rajapakses to delay are obvious. You are playing for time. Where is your FCID of Yahapalanaya now. How could FCID catch corrupt then, if there were no laws. Twister. Hope BASL and CC are silent for courtesy as otherwise they would have asked this question.

Te public should record these statements/promises and put them in publicly visible banners in a spots where people can see them and be reminded everyday of what was said and what was achieved. Preferably one at the entrance to the parliament. We need to hold these people who are employed by the people, accountable.

The solution is very simple. In China, corruption is punished with the death penalty by shooting in the neck. In Sri Lanka, the punishment for corruption of more than LKR 100,000 should be life imprisonment in a labour camp, without the possibility of pardon, before 30 years of imprisonment. This crime should not be eligible for bail. Everything that the senile Ranil is saying now is meaningless and just election banter.

In 2015 you promised a yahapalanaya and robbed the Central Bank with Ravi and Arjuna. Go home on the 22nd and watch Netflix. Your time is over.

Mr. President. I know a lot about corruption and have been instrumental in sending corrupt individuals to where they belong- in jail. My record internationally is well known. I only will ask about Red Ruth Investments case where money was seized in HSBC HK. Mr. Thirikumar Nadesan was the beneficiary of that account. NOTHING HAPPENED. We do not need new laws. We need one honest politician to take on the corrupt. Maybe AKD is the one. Time will tell.

Too late, President. You made two mistakes. You did not show any empathy towards the poor, when applying the VAT and other taxes, not one statement of sympathy. Secondly, you never made strong statement on controlling corruption. Why? because you were dependent on the Rajapakse support? That is why you were called Ranil Rajapakse. Sorry, you will just have to fade away.

You have been in politics as a Minister, Leader of the Opposition, Prime Minister, and President for nearly half a century. All that you did was to protect the most corrupt. Sri Lanka is in this economic and moral bankruptcy because of your inaction. How come just 3 weeks before the Presidential Election you suddenly got this idea?

Was anxiously waiting for your comments too. I think you waited to see the reaction of the readers before deciding to follow the flow! Hope you agree now how desperate Ranil is to stay in power to enjoy the privileges instead of sincerely walk the ground and feel the situation. Anyways, Ranil might still get elected as there are a few more of your kind still hoodwinked or hip-mortised by charm or is there something else not know to us?

To me, it appears that the President plucked coconuts on the grounds of the Parliament for 40 years without passing all these laws that he made up in his head during the election. He has been the PM so many times and a President for over two years now. Where did he get this wisdom from now? Did a coconut fall on his head? Is this coconut from Sajith or Anura?
