SLPP defectors form new alliance

Colombo, September 5 (Daily Mirror)- A group of SLPP MPs together with several other parties today formed the Podujana Eksath Nidahas Peramuna (PENP) led by Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.

Minister Ramesh Pathirana will be the General Secretary of the new alliance. The symbol of the party is the cup.

Allies of the new alliance include a section of the SLPP, the MEP, TMVP, EPDP, National Congress, Lanka Jathika Estate Workers Union, United Peoples Party, SLMP and the Deshapremi Janatha Balawegaya.

We live in a country where in 2004 39 JVP (now NPP) members were elected to parliament. They even donated their national list entitlement (40th seat) to another party! At the next election they only won 6 seats. Now the population has forgotten that when they had the chance JVP too they did not perform. Worst part of the story 28 of those JVP successfuls shifted to other parties to do politics. Other parties that the JVP are accusing of being corrupt. A prominent example of a JVP gemba is Wimal W. Voters must realise the lies all these parties are dishing out to the ever hopeful voters (more like suckers) Vote wisely based on who is more practical and balanced with their promises.

Can this be an indication that all these MPs have come out of their fear of Rajapassas, because MR and his families were intimidating these helpless MPs. Even some party leaders had this eternal fear of MR family and were duty bound to worship them. After Ranil managed the country, these guys have become bold enough to dare the MR family. May be this is their second step, while the first was declaring loyalty to Ranil after nomination. Or are they abandoning the sinking ship of SLPP?
