Starlink given license to operate in Sri Lanka from August 12

Colombo, August 13 (Daily Mirror) - The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) has issued a Telecommunications Service Provider License under Section 17B of the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Act No. 25 of 1991 as amended, to Starlink Lanka (Private) Limited for the provision of Satellite Broadband Services in Sri Lanka.

This license will be effective from 12th August 2024.

Where speed matters, clients will pay. Great for offshore BPO and IT industry. Great for international market trading activity. Great to reach difficult to services pockets. Amazing how the bureaucracy was able to finalise this in such a short period. Need to get BOI to cut out the beau acracy and work as fast! The way to go.

Starlink works with their licence. If they deactivate it anytime, no one including the government will be able to access internet in such areas working with starlink. Essentially the service is beyond government control. This happened during the Russia- Ukraine war when Musk deactivated Ukrainian service in certain areas.
