Moments after the Supreme Court judgement determined that the decision to expel Harin Fernando and Manusha Nanayakkara from the SJB was legally valid, President Ranil Wickremesinghe met Harin and Manusha last morning and thanked the two for their support and requested them 'not to worry'.
The two former ministers who ceased to be MPs and had to vacate their portfolios soon after the ruling informed the President that they were leaving with their heads held high as they had taken a decision to leave Sajith Premadasa and work for the country at a time when the country needed them the most.
Wickremesinghe who had been upset over the duo having to vacate their ministries said he appreciated their hard work and requested them to remain with him.
Both of them pledged to remain with the President and get involved in Wickremesinghe's campaign. "The President has given me the task to lead his 100 rallies, so I am going to get myself fully involved in that. If he wins, I will decide later if I will contest for a seat," Fernando told Daily Mirror.
Manusha himself will also get involved in the President's campaign.
The Daily Mirror learns that following the expulsion of Harin and Manusha from the Parliamentary seats, the Ministries of Tourism, Youth and Sports will come under the purview of the President.
The Ministries of Lands and Foreign Employment will come under the purview of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.
However, a state minister of Tourism will be sworn in due to the peak tourism season, the Daily Mirror learns.
Following the Supreme Court ruling yesterday, both Harin and Manusha told the media that they had undertaken a 'suicide mission' even when the SJB had refused to join the government back in 2022.

First of all he can’t win. Harin… Talk to you hundreds of girlfriends and find a place to work and earn a legitimate living rather than hoodwinking general public.

I saw a lot of comments calling both Harin and Manusha as corrupt, let the courts determine if that’s true. I appreciate and congratulate both of them for doing their part in reviving the economy and helping Sri Lanka get back on her feet. Thank you.

They work for the salary. Statistics say it all. How can you exceed the targets given in terms of tourist and overseas employment? Money did fall from the sky!

Kulesh Saturday, 10 August 2024 12:58 PM
In case you are not aware Harin has not taken a salary over the past two years. The overseas visits to promote tourism was undertaken on his personal expense. He hails from a business family and is a person of means. No the parasite that you are trying hard to make out. Perhaps you are being influences by a bunch of leeches who have sucked out any senses you had.

Its Great that the President is to take over the Ministry of Sports. This Ministry should go to someone who plays or has played some sport. The president is the best POCKET BILLIARDS player the world has ever seen. Shame it's not an Olympic sport .

All of these selfish acts of changing politics and principals for their own survival and benefits by supporting selfish and political power hungry leaders like RW , MR or any one like them is NOT HELPING TO BUILD THE COUNTRY BANCRUPTED BY THE SAME POLITICAL LEADERS WHO GOVERNED SRILANKA FOR MORE THAN YEARS TIME TO TIME .

once upon a time in Arshikland, Chief Justice Sarath N Silva gave a ruling which allowed MPs elected by the people from party to crossover inside parliament. This created a total mockery of the peoples mandate. Hope someone will realise the gravity of this mistake and correct this clause in our constitution. Today all political parties including the JVP cut deals even before elections are held by having their party strategies built on these line. Over the years the JVP did join many a govt. A country without values and discipline been practiced will only have situations like what Bangladesh is facing as they go along. We can blame geo political actors but at the end of the day its our country and our strategies and approach that will help us overcome these challenges.

Sri Lankas tragedy is efficient Politicians like the young man from a (supposedly God fearing) Darley road school is efficient but corrupt to the core. On the other hand we have very decent (supposedly honest) Politicians such as a former CEO of a private bank from the Reid Avenue school who was so slow even his supporters got fed up of him. Hope the young former ruggerite from a school by the sea will understand the good bad and the ugly and change to be a better man in the next 10 years when he has a more meaningful chance to be the President of this country.

Frog Politician’s Needs To Be Removed in The Next Elections Saturday, 10 August 2024 10:15 AM
Your kind of frog politician’s work to improve yourselves and both family / frens. Look at the state of government medical institutions, transportation system's etc in outstation areas. Poverty is rampant, most struggling to get clean water in rural areas too. You and fellow so called politicians Must be removed in the next elections and have a new team to ensure the basics are provided to the citizens to live comfortably too. Remember, Not only your kind needs comforts. The average citizen is paying taxes for the development and improvements of the country which is hardly happening now.

And it is these egotistical political clowns who are supposed to completely rehabilitate, save and lead Sri Lanka into a better future!!! I shudder when I think of these people who only have their personal and political survival in mind!!! The same thought occurs to me when I think of the opposition forces with Sajith and Anura Kumara!!! And as one can see from the comments, a large electorate obviously really believes that the salvation of the country and the solution to its huge problems will come from this side!!! Let's talk again after the election!!!

If we keep voting in the likes of these narcissistic skunks, their deceptive Masters and this corrupt system they thrive in, again and again, we only deserve a 3rd/4th word country till most of us die (soon)! An unelected president who did nothing to uplift this mortgaged county out of poverty for 40 years, and two unintelligent Sons of even worse leaders demanding to be elected for Presidency within the very corrupt system, only spells doom for this country and its people; except for the ignorant who stubbornly refuse to accept reality.
