State Minister of Women and Child Affairs Geetha Kumarasinghe appeared to have trouble in establishing her identity as a Minister when she recently telephoned the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Kuwait Kandeepan Balasubramaniam to inquire into the suspicious death of a Sri Lankan female.
During a media briefing, the State Minister made a telephone call to the Ambassador to Kuwait.
The Minister who introduced herself as Geetha Kumarasinghe struggled to establish her identity as a Minister, while the Ambassador was heard questioning as to who Geetha was.
“Geetha Kumarasinghe means the Udarata Menike who sang songs?” the Ambassador questioned, to which the State Minister responded that she is an actress. “Your Excellency, I never have sung. For so many years I was in the movies. Now I’m working in the ... Women and Child...” she said.
The incident the Minister inquired into, concerns the death of a woman inside a Kuwaiti residence, which has raised suspicions that her death was not a suicide. Despite a detailed explanation by the Ambassador, the State Minister appeared to be more interested in the Ambassadors comment.
“How was that? The Ambassador said that I’m an Udarata Menike...” she told journalists.
