Restrictions need to continue until year end: Health DG

Not appropriate to allow running public transport

The country will have to keep under certain restrictions until the month of December this year in order to curb people's unnecessary movement, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardane said.

He told reporters today that people seem to be taking things for granted which is evident with their behaviour during the weekend.

“This the very situation that we witnessed during the last New Year season where people started to go on picnics and pilgrimages making the COVID situation dreadful,” he said.

“The public will have to act with a sense of responsibility in order to keep coronovirus at bay,” Dr. Gunawardane added.

Hence, he appealed to the people to strictly adhere to health practices despite being vaccinated and added the restrictions would have to be carried on until the end of this year.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said it was not appropriate to allow running the public transport service now in a situation where the people will be least bothered about the health rules. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
