Creating another milestone in history, Hotel Topaz/The Tourmaline organise the very first interschool culinary creations competition among 23 schools from the
Kandy region.
The competition will mark an important event in the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) calendar for the year and this is the second time Hotel Topaz/The Tourmaline decided to go with schools, after the interschool quiz competition (probably the very first of its kind by a hotel company in Sri Lanka) held
last October.
Aimed at sharpening and highlighting the culinary talents and creativity of the school students in the Kandy region, the competition is arranged with the approval and blessing of the Central Province Education Department.
The novel format of the competition that will engage student teams to showcase their creative talents in five areas viz. cake decoration, salad mixing, Sri Lankan cooking, mocktail and vegetable carving, will require them to actively participate in each event showing team spirits and move from one event to another in given time slots. Each team will comprise of five students.
Prior to the competition, training sessions were conducted by veteran chefs and food and beverage (F&B) personnel of Hotel Topaz/The Tourmaline and the students got the opportunity to learn the basics and some fine secrets related to each of the above competition area. Judging will be done by industry veterans (chefs and F&B managers) who will judge each item/dish created on the criteria of taste, presentation, optimum resource usage, team work and cleanliness/hygiene concern.
The competition will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Hotel Topaz/The Tourmaline Complex in Aniwatte, Kandy. It will be open for the public to come and encourage the creative talents of the
Kandy students.
